This success story demonstrates how Virginia Career Works (VCW) staff collaborated to assist a veteran in engaging in Registered Apprenticeship.  The client, a veteran, first visited Virginia Career Works – Harrisonburg Center for an appointment with Chris Walker, a Veteran Employment Representative.  The client had an interest in Registered Apprenticeship and a referral was made to VCW Career Specialist Eric Kennedy who assisted with an Apprenticeship application to the Shenandoah Valley Workforce Development Board for apprenticeship funding through the Valley to Virginia (V2V) Registered Apprenticeship program.  The client was then referred to Riddleberger Brothers Mechanical Contractors, a registered apprenticeship sponsor, for a job opening. The individual landed the job and an earn and learn apprenticeship opportunity.  He began employment on 11/15/2019.  Co-enrollment in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and V2V training programs will pay for the client’s training on their pathway to registered apprenticeship.
