Organization Summary: The SVWDB was established in 2000 and carries out the vision of the Board of Directors, Chief Elected Officials Consortium, economic development, and community partners by coordinating, administering, and advancing the work of the regional workforce ecosystem system, known as Virginia Career Works. The SVWDB is funded through the U.S. Department of Labor (US DOL) / Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and independent grants. Primary program services are administered under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). SVWDB oversees services for job seekers and businesses within 16 jurisdictions, which includes the counties of Augusta, Bath, Clarke, Frederick, Highland, Page, Shenandoah, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Warren, and the cities of Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton, Waynesboro, and Winchester. The comprehensive workforce center is in Fishersville with two additional service locations in Harrisonburg and Winchester. The SVWDB has 10 dedicated staff members and an operating budget of approximately $2M, which varies year-to-year based on Federal allocations and grant funding.
